About Us

The Walker River Social Services Department has a primary focus to improve the quality of life for eligible Indians and their families that live on or near Indian reservations and to protect the children, elderly and disabled from abuse and neglect.  These services include but are not limited to: assistance in solving problems related to family functioning and interpersonal relationships; referral to the appropriate resources for problems related to age, illness, physical or mental handicaps, drug abuse, alcoholism, and violation of the law; and protective services.         

Our Mission:

Our mission is to nurture children, youth, and caregivers to keep native families healthy and intact.  Provide home-based and community-based Family Support Services to parents and other caregivers of vulnerable elders, children, and those who are disabled, medically fragile, drug exposed, abused or neglected, and those at risk of being abused or neglected.

Any Federally Recognized Native American, living within our service area and who also meets the income guidelines MAY qualify for general assistance.

Any person who is 60 years and older, or permanently disabled and who lives on the WRPT Reservation may qualify for services under our Aging & Disability Services Division funding. Programs include: Homemaker, Transportation, Companion, Home Safety Modification and Repair.

Please Note:
Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) & Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) are  also assessed and considered when determining qualification for programs.

Yes, WRSS staff can assist with applying, faxing, calling and following up with other services such as Social Security, Division of Welfare, Tribal Housing, Mineral County CAHS, Lifeline and Affordable Connectivity Benefits, etc.

About Us:

A parent is a child’s first and most important teacher. This FREE program is designed to provide parents with information and to help build the children’s intellectual, language, social and physical development from birth to age five. Each stage in a child’s development is important , and comes with opportunities for learning. Parents as Teachers helps guide parents through these stages and gives them tools for success.

The vision of the Tribal Home Visitation program is to promote parent child connections and engage parents, caregivers, and community members by strengthening families through bonding, culture and learning.
